Apply a topical flea treatment to your pet. You can find these products online or in pet stores. Make sure it is a high-quality spot treatment such as Advantage or Frontline. You place a few drops of the product on your pet's neck and within a few hours the fleas will begin to die. It works by dispensing the product throughout the skin and fur.

Sprinkle some flea killer powder or spray. These are also available at pet supply stores or at home improvement stores. Use the flea powder or spray throughout your house, not just in the areas where your pet sleeps. Use the product according to the package directions so that you will have the best results.

Treat your yard as well. Purchase a product from the home improvement store that you attach to a hose and spray around your lawn and garden. This will kill fleas and flea eggs so your pet will not become re-infested every time she goes outside. While the topical flea product will keep them off your dog or cat, the fleas in the yard could still enter your house on your clothing.

Vacuum your home after spreading the flea powder. Most product labels will instruct you to sprinkle the product liberally and leave on for a specified amount of time, anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or so. Vacuum up the powder and the fleas and flea eggs. Seal the vacuum bag and toss it in the outside trash to be sure no fleas escape.
