How to Clean A Cat's Ears With Alcohol

Cats are rather clean animals. They don't need baths the way that dogs do. But you may not realize that a cat can't really get inside his ears to do a thorough cleaning. Cats rely on their owners to clean the inside of their ears. Use alcohol to clean your cat's ears--and do it every other week for optimal health.

Instructions

    • 1

Take a cotton ball and roll it up so it isn't as fluffy.

    • 2

Dip the cotton ball into a small dish of warm water. Cold water will startle the cat. Warm water is soothing.

    • 3

Have a friend or family member hold the cat comfortably on his lap. This makes the experience less traumatizing for the cat--until the cat gets used to having her ears cleaned.

    • 4

Use the wet cotton to wipe away any dirt and wax from the cat's ears. This will prepare the ears for the alcohol. Do one ear at a time.

    • 5

Roll up another cotton ball and dip it in the alcohol.

    • 6

Clean the inside of each ear with a cotton ball. Wipe until you don't see any more wax or dirt.

    • 7

Finish by drying each ear with a piece of cotton. Wet ears will irritate your cat, so it is best to dry out his ears before you let the him go.
