How to Give a Kitten a Bath

In general, cats are very clean animals. But most cats would benefit from a bath periodically, especially if any family members are allergic. Giving a kitten a bath can be a less-than-simple feat, but practice can make bathtime a more pleasant experience for you and your cat.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a small no-slip bath mat in the bottom of a sink. This will prevent the kitten from slipping around and getting upset. It will also help you control the kitten if it squirms.

    • 2

Fill the sink with 2 to 3 inches of tepid to warm water.

    • 3

Brush the kitten thoroughly before the bath.

    • 4

Gently lower the kitten into the water and hold it in place by the scruff of the neck.

    • 5

Use a small cup to moisten the kitten's body with water. Avoid getting water on its head.

    • 6

Use a small amount of baby shampoo to wash the kitten's body. Lather gently from heat to tail.

    • 7

Use a cup to rinse away the shampoo.

    • 8

Dry the kitten thoroughly with a very soft towel.
