  1. How to Clean Feces from Cat Fur

Gently corral the cat. This needs to be done carefully, so as not to upset the cat. You want to be in a relaxed setting, but in a room with a closed door. Show your kitty treats to tempt it.Skipping this step is a real mistake. Not only will the cat try to run away, but also it might track poop all over your home.

Evaluate the extent of the feces. Sometimes the damage is so great that you simply must cut it out. If your cat will tolerate scissors near its bottom, a few quick snips might be the best solution. If the area of fecal contamination is significant, or your cat is too skittish, try another approach first.

Ask yourself: dry or moist? If the feces have dried, you might be able to carefully chip some of it off with just your gloved fingers. Then you could gently comb or brush the rest off.Proceed cautiously as fecal crust can really stick to fur. Try to use your fingers to hold the fur, so pressure from the comb or brush doesn't tug on your kitty's tender skin.

Wipe damp feces with a thoroughly moistened paper towel or pet wipe. You will probably go through a few wipes, as you want to immediately discard the soiled cloths.

Consult a vet if necessary. Usually a little feces in the fur is nothing to worry about; however, sometimes the mess is to great or the cat too frazzled for home treatment. Ignored, feces in fur can lead to matting, skin infection, fecal contamination in the household, and a generally stinky cat. Try to clean the cat yourself before admitting defeat.
