How to Bathe a Persian Cat With No Blow Drying

Bathing a cat reduces allergens on the fur. Combing and bathing help to prevent mats in a Persian cat's fur, and it reduces the risk of hairballs, as well as the amount of cat hair on your clothes and furniture. Comb the Persian's fur before washing, as washing will only make mats worse and more difficult to deal with.

Instructions

    • 1

Comb the cat carefully before washing it to remove as much loose hair as possible. Remove any mats or tangles.

    • 2

Set out all your supplies before starting. Put an extra-absorbent synthetic towel, another towel, cat shampoo and cat conditioner plus a pitcher or glass near the sink.

    • 3

Fill the sink with warm -- not hot -- water to a depth of about 3 to 4 inches. Make the room warm enough for comfort.

    • 4

Pour 1 to 2 teaspoons of shampoo into the pitcher or glass. Fill it with warm water and mix the shampoo evenly into the water. Pour it over the cat, starting at the neck. Repeat one or two more times, until the cat's fur is saturated with soapy water. Avoid getting soapy water on the cat's face or in its ears.

    • 5

Massage the soapy water into the cat's fur, down to the skin. Don't use circular movements which can tie the fur in knots. Use raking movements with your fingers.

    • 6

Drain the water with the cat still in the sink. Run warm rinse water into the sink, and use the pitcher or glass to pour water over the cat until no shampoo remains.

    • 7

Squeeze as much water out of the cat's fur as possible, gently squeezing the cat's body from neck to tail. Squeeze water out of the tail and off all the cat's legs.

    • 8

Wrap the cat in an extra-absorbent synthetic towel and keep it in the towel for several minutes, squeezing gently to remove as much water as possible. When the towel is too wet, wrap the cat in a bath towel for several minutes longer.

Let the cat air-dry completely in a warm room before combing the fur. Your cat will probably sit down right away and start grooming itself, which will help with the drying process. Comb the cat's fur carefully until it is tangle-free and smooth.
