Things You'll Need
- Old towel
- Wide-toothed metal cat comb
Instructions
Place an old towel on the floor to catch loose fur. Grooming your cat on the floor makes it easier for you to sit and hold the cat. Grooming on the floor also ensures that your Himalayan cat does not jump off the table or counter while you brush it.
Put your cat on the towel. Soothe the cat by petting it and speaking to it in a soft voice. Gently place a hand on the side of the cat or underneath the chin to keep it in place. Alternatively, if your cat tends to run during grooming, place the towel in your lap and hold the cat on it with its body between your arm and your side.
Start combing the cat̵7;s fur with a wide-toothed metal comb designed to eliminate knots and tangles. Comb the fur in sections. Start at the bottom of the fur and gently comb your way up to the root. Avoid tugging on knots or matted fur. Himalayan cats have delicate skin and tugging is painful.
Hold the cat up and comb the belly and under its legs. Use the same technique as in Step 3. Comb the tail and the long fur on the Himalayan cat's paws.
Continue combing the cat until the fur is free of knots and tangles. If knots do not comb out, carefully cut them with a pair of scissors.
