How to Get a Cat in a Bathtub

During hot summer days, you may find that your cat has voluntarily entered the bathtub in order to stay cool. It's not always so easy when it comes time to bathe the cat. Most cats hate water, so the prospect of a bath is scary. Fortunately, routine baths are not necessary since cats regularly groom themselves. However, if your cat develops a skin condition, or gets into a mess that's too big for its tongue to cover, you must get that kitty into the tub.

Instructions

    • 1

Give the cat its favorite toys to play with before putting it in the bath. Play time helps the cat relax.

    • 2

Trim the nails on all four paws to reduce the chance of getting scratched.

    • 3

Place a bath mat on the bottom of the bathtub to keep the cat from sliding on the smooth surface.

    • 4

Put the cat shampoo and towels in the bathroom. Preparation cuts down the time the cat has to spend in the bathtub.

    • 5

Fill the tub with three to four inches of lukewarm water.

    • 6

Bring the cat to the bathroom; close the door to prevent it from running out.

    • 7

Place the cat gently but firmly into the bathtub. Keep a steady hand on the cat at all times.
