Grooming
-
Keeping your cat well groomed will prevent your cat from shedding. Dead fur will remain in your cat's coat until it licks it off or it lays on furniture that will grasp the dead hair. Grooming the cat will remove these hairs before they can fall out. Take your cat to a professional groomer for a haircut once every two months. In between hair cuts, brush your cat daily with a professional-grade cat fur brush to remove the excess hair on your own.
Petting
-
When you pet your cat fur ends up on your hands and clothing. Put on a pair of rubber gloves every time you go to pet your cat. Rubber gloves -- there are also more expensive petting gloves that you can purchase from a pet store -- will attract and hold the fur as you pet your cat. All of the fur will stick to the gloves rather than your hands or clothing. When done, rinse the gloves off with a hose to dispose of the fur.
Changing Diet
-
If your cat has excessive shedding problems, you may want to change its diet. Premium cat food brands -- and often the more expensive brands -- have better, natural ingredients, which are much better for you cat. Feeding your cat a better cat food will improve your cat's health. Once your cat has more nutrients inside its body, shedding will become less. Cat foods high in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids also will prevent shedding.
Cat Wipes
-
Since cats groom themselves on a daily basis, giving your cat a bath isn't always necessary unless they get very dirty. But cat baths will remove excess fur and soften the skin, preventing further shedding. Instead of giving your cat a bath. use cat wipes or sprays to wash your cat and prevent shedding. These wipes and sprays are made with natural proteins and conditioners that will clean and improve your cat's coat. Wipe your cat down or spray your cat's coat with the products once a week.
