Will your cat get hurt if it drinks out of the toilet?

It's not ideal for your cat to drink out of the toilet. While they probably won't get seriously hurt from a few sips, here's why it's a bad idea:

* Toilet water is not clean. Even if your toilet seems clean, it contains traces of bacteria and chemicals from cleaning products, which can be harmful to your cat.

* The water can be cold. Cats prefer warmer water and drinking cold water can upset their stomach.

* The toilet bowl can be dangerous. Cats can easily fall in and injure themselves, especially if the bowl is slippery or has a narrow rim.

* It encourages bad habits. If your cat gets used to drinking from the toilet, it may be harder to train them to drink from their own water bowl.

What should you do?

* Provide your cat with fresh, clean water. Make sure their water bowl is always full and accessible. You can also try offering them different types of water bowls, like fountains or ceramic bowls.

* Clean your cat's water bowl regularly. This will help prevent the growth of bacteria.

* Close the toilet lid. This will prevent your cat from getting into the toilet bowl.

* Consider using a toilet lid lock. These are available at most pet stores and can help keep your cat out of the toilet.

If you notice your cat drinking from the toilet often, it's best to talk to your veterinarian to rule out any underlying medical conditions that may be causing them to crave the water.
