How to Keep a Cat From Pulling Out Stitches on Paws

Cats, like most animals, will do almost anything to remove stitches from their feet. Your cat will pull the stitches out with her teeth, if necessary, and that could cause an infection or severe damage to the area that was stitched together. Preventing your cat from removing stitches will help the healing process and prevent another visit to your veterinarian.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure your cat̵7;s neck with a measuring tape.

    • 2

Visit a pet store or veterinarian's office, and purchase an Elizabethan collar, also known as an E-collar, that will fit around your cat̵7;s neck. This is a cone collar, not an electronic one.

    • 3

Place the E-collar around your cat̵7;s neck. It comes in one piece and wraps around the cat's neck.

    • 4

Push the three snaps together until the collar clips together around the neck.

    • 5

Leave the E-collar on your cat at all times until the stitches are removed.
