How to Clear a Cat's Nasal Passages

Cats are prone to illnesses, and one of the first symptoms is a blocked nose. This will be outwardly noticeable when the cat starts clearly breathing from its mouth, wheezes, sneezes or displays general discomfort. It is important this is dealt with quickly as blocked nasal passages can lead to more serious problems like pneumonia and respiratory illness.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on a dehumidifier near where the cat sleeps. This removes moisture from the air, which can lead to more serious cat health problems.

    • 2

Wipe away any moist discharge from the cat̵7;s nose with a tissue. A cat is incapable of blowing its nose, but wiping it away will stop it entering the body. Avoid using scented tissues as some of the chemicals may be unpleasant for the cat.

Visit the veterinarian if symptoms do not subside after a couple of days. A veterinarian may prescribe antibiotics or a decongestant.
