Homemade Dry Cat Shampoo With Arrowroot

You can bathe your cat without any struggles by simply using a homemade dry shampoo. Unlike dogs, most cats do not like being bathed in water and will respond negatively during bath time. To avoid fighting with your cat and possibly getting scratched in the process, try using a dry shampoo made with arrowroot, a white powder extracted from the West Indian plant, Marantha. Similar in appearance to corn starch, arrowroot powder -- typically used as a thickening agent in food recipes -- is a starch which absorbs oil, grease and dirt when applied to your cat's fur. Combine arrowroot with orris root to make a homemade dry shampoo for your cat.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase arrowroot and orris root powder. You can find both at a local health food store. Also, some grocery stores have arrowroot in the spice aisle.

    • 2

Combine 4 tbsp. each of arrowroot powder and orris root powder in a small bowl. Stir the powders with a spoon to mix them together.

    • 3

Brush your cat's coat thoroughly. This will help remove any debris, dirt or loose hair before the dry shampoo application.

    • 4

Sprinkle the dry shampoo mixture all over your cat's fur. Using your fingers, massage the dry shampoo into your cat's skin and through its coat. Allow the mixture to remain on your cat for about 10 minutes.

    • 5

Brush the dry shampoo out of your cat's fur. A natural bristled brush works best for removing all of the powder. Continue brushing until all traces of the powder are gone.
