Things You'll Need
- Cloth
- Toothbrush or small fine tooth comb
- Cotton pad
Instructions
Wash your hands. Only remove stains with clean hands.
Clean the cat's face every day with a damp cloth. Gently wipe around the eyes to remove the stains and clean the eyes. Avoid getting water into the cat's eyes.
Dip a toothbrush or fine tooth comb into warm water. Then gently brush or comb the hairs under the eyes to remove the hardened and crusty material left by the mucus stains.
Dry the eyes and surrounding area with a clean cotton pad.
Trim any long hairs around the eyes with scissors. This prevents the hair from getting into the eyes. Once the hair touches the yes it triggers excessive watering and tearing.
Consider using commercial tear-stain removal products. These products are liquids that clean the eyes so check the ingredients and first consult with a veterinarian before using. Some products contain harsh chemicals that can irritate the cat's eyes.
