How to Calm a Cat in Heat at Home

A sexually mature female cat goes into heat more than once a month between the months of February and October if she is not spayed before her first cycle. Each cycle lasts about six to 10 days, which means you are going to hear her meowing and yowling as she goes through her estrus cycle. If she is normally not an affectionate feline, you will notice her becoming much more affectionate, rubbing up against you and against inanimate objects. You'll also be dealing with agitated male cats who want to get close to your cat and engage in the sex act.

Instructions

    • 1

Give your female cat additional affection, stroking and cuddling when she is in heat. The cat's yowling and stroking against your legs is her way of seeking attention, and it may help calm her down temporarily.

    • 2

Distract your cat by bringing out some cat toys. Engage her in several play sessions during the day.

    • 3

Offer cat treats to your cat while she is in heat.

    • 4

Put a classical music CD on and play it when your cat is unsettled while in heat. Choose Mozart compositions, which may help your cat settle down.
