How to Kill Fleas on Kittens Naturally

Fleas can infest your kitten, leading to a variety of health issues for it, including itchy, infected skin and deadly anemia. Unlike older cats, you cannot use most commercially available flea-control products on a kitten under eight weeks old, and many of these products contain toxic insecticides. Avoid toxic chemicals and eliminate fleas on your kitten using safe, natural and organic ingredients to remove the fleas from your kitten's coat. Prevent re-infestation by eliminating fleas from your home.

Instructions

    • 1

Comb your kitten with a flea comb to remove fleas, eggs and larvae from its coat. Concentrate on the base of the tail, between its toes and behind the ears, where fleas tend to hide, according to the Atlanta Humane Society. Each time you brush the kitten, dip the comb into a bowl filled with a grain alcohol, such as vodka, to kill the fleas.

    • 2

Wash the kitten with a few drops of dish soap and lukewarm water. Wet the kitten's coat, lather its fur by massaging the soap down into its skin and rinsing it thoroughly. Avoid getting soap near the kitten's head or face. The dish soap removes the oils from the kitten's fur, allowing you to remove any remaining fleas from the coat. Repeat the washing process with a gentle cat shampoo, allowing the shampoo to sit on the kitten's fur for 10 minutes before rinsing.

    • 3

Dry the kitten with a towel and place it on a blanket-wrapped heating pad to keep it warm. Spritz a lavender hydrosol onto your hands and rub it into the kitten's fur and skin. The hydrosol will help to repel fleas and kill any remaining fleas on the coat.

Add 1/2 tsp. of brewer's yeast to your kitten's canned food daily, to repel fleas by making its blood unappetizing to fleas.

    • 5

Wash the kitten's bedding in hot water with 1/2 cup of baking soda to kill the fleas and flea eggs on these items and prevent them from re-infesting your kitten. Sprinkle dried lavender on and around the bedding and other areas your kitten frequents to repel and kill fleas.

Mix 1 cup baking soda with 15 drops of lemon essential oil and sprinkle it on carpeting to kill fleas. Let the powder sit for 30 minutes and vacuum it away to get rid of fleas in your home.
