How to Prevent Kittens From Getting Worms

There are three different types of worms that can affect your kitten. These include tapeworms, hookworms and roundworms. They can cause serious health problems for a kitten, especially a very young kitten, so measures should be taken to prevent this issue from occurring in the first place. Signs that your kitten has worms include loss of appetite, diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss, a pot belly, stunted growth or a poor coat. If you suspect your kitten may have worms, schedule an appointment with your veterinarian right away.

Instructions

    • 1

Take your kitten to the veterinarian as soon as you adopt. Your vet can make sure the kitten does not already have worms or any other health condition. Always follow your veterinarian's recommendations.

    • 2

Ask your veterinarian for a recommendation for a worm treatment medication for your kitten. Worms are prevented by using medication that is prescribed by a veterinarian. Your veterinarian can let you know which medication will work best for your kitten.

    • 3

Do not apply any worm treatment when your kitten is under six weeks old.

    • 4

Apply the worm treatment every three weeks when your kitten is six to 16 weeks old.

    • 5

Give your kitten worm treatment every three months after the age of four months and on into adulthood.
