How to Get Rid of Fleas on Kiittens

A kitten with fleas is probably living a very uncomfortable life and must be treated, not only for relief of the discomfort, but a kitten can die from anemia if the fleas are not killed. An adult cat can be easily treated with chemicals; however, a kitten under 6 weeks old cannot be exposed to flea powders or chemicals of any kind.

Instructions

Fill the bathroom sink with warm water. Adjust the temperature as though you were bathing a baby. Gently immerse the kitten in the water up to its neck. Do not put its head underwater, but wet the head with the washcloth. Make sure all fur is completely wet, including on the ears and around the mouth.

Remove the kitten from the water and put it on a towel. Take a dollop of Dawn dish washing liquid and massage it into the fur everywhere, all the way down to the skin. Do not get the dish soap in the kitten's eyes. If you are thorough, the soap will kill most of the fleas.

Put the kitten back in the sink and rinse the fur with warm water. Work quickly, as it is likely the kitten will not be enjoying this, and you could be scratched. Again, be careful not to get soap in the kitten's eyes.

Place the kitten on a clean, dry towel and gently dry it off until the kitten is just slightly damp. The kitten needs to be kept warm, so make sure it is kept covered by the towel as much as possible.

Getting rid of the fleas will be a huge relief for your kitten.

Using a flea comb, search through the kitten's fur to catch any remaining fleas. Pick them out of the comb with tweezers or fingernails. Drop the fleas into the cup of hot water; this will kill them instantly.
