How to Get Rid of Ear Mites Naturally in Kittens

Mites pass from infected cats to kittens through direct contact; since young kittens have a developing immune system, they are prone to contracting these parasites. Ear mites are tiny, spider-like parasites that live in the ears of the kitten, feeding on ear wax and dead skin cells. These pests cause itching, redness, wax buildup, infections and even deafness if not treated, according to Vet Info. To rid your kitten of mites, you do not have to use a chemical insecticide. Instead use natural, holistic remedies to relieve your kitten of these pests.

Instructions

    • 1

Combine 400 IU vitamin E with 1/2 oz. almond oil in a small bowl. Place the bowl over a pot of hot, not boiling, water to heat it to body temperature.

    • 2

Fill an eyedropper with the almond oil mixture and place a half dropperful in each ear of your kitten. Hold your kitten's head still and lift the ear up so the oil get inside the ear canal. Massage the side of the face below the ear to work the oil into the ear to break up the wax. Allow the mixture to sit for two to three hours to loosen the wax.

    • 3

Wipe out the ear with a cotton swab to remove any built-up wax. The oil and vitamin E treatment will begin the cleansing and healing process while smothering the mites.

    • 4

Mix an equal part vinegar and water in a bowl and fill the eyedropper with it. Insert a half dropperful in each of your kitten's ears, and allow your cat to shake the excess fluid out. Wipe away any excess solution, wax and debris. This solution cleans and disinfects the ears.

    • 5

Continue the almond oil and vitamin E treatment every other day, for six days to soothe and heal the irritation in your kitten's ears. You do not need to repeat the vinegar treatment unless you see a large amount of debris or smell an odor in the ears. After six days, stop treatment for three days.

Mix a solution of 9 drops yellow dock root extract with 1 tbsp. distilled water. Fill an eyedropper with the solution and apply one half the solution to each of your kitten's ears. Repeat this procedure once every three days for six weeks. Treatment with this solution kills the remaining mites and the eggs throughout their life cycle, eliminating all of them.
