Instructions
Lift the cat's tail and look at the rear from behind.
Look for the anus below the tail. Below the anus is the genital opening.
Identify whether the genital opening is a slit or a circle topped by a Y shape. If it's a slit, the cat is female. If the opening is a circle with a Y, it's a male.
How to Know If My Kitty Is Male or Female
If a kitty has adopted you, or you've found a cat and want to determine its sex, you may be in for a challenge. Identifying cats can be tricky, especially if the cat is less than eight weeks of age. If you have cats of both sexes available to compare, identification between the two sexes is easier. Even adult cats can be tricky to sex, since neutered males look very similar to females. With a little practice, it does get easier.
