Tapeworms in Cats Home Remedy

Cats can become infected with a parasite known as the tapeworm by ingesting infected fleas or rodents, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Once infected, cats may show a variety of symptoms including diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss and small, rice-like sections of the tapeworm visible on the cat's anus. If your veterinarian diagnoses your cat with a tapeworm infection, you can treat your cat naturally, instead of with harsh medications. Make a nontoxic home remedy to get rid of the tapeworms in your cat.

Instructions

    • 1

Rinse fresh, raw pumpkin seeds and dry them thoroughly. According to Herbs2000, pumpkin seeds contain an amino acid called cucurbitin. This chemical has properties that eliminate tapeworms and other parasites in cats and people.

    • 2

Grind the seeds in the food processor until they reach a fine powder texture. For the best results, grind the seeds freshly every day before giving them to your cat, according to "Dr. Pitcairn's New Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats." You can also grind the seeds and freeze the remainder of the ground seeds for later use. Seal them in an airtight container to prevent moisture from affecting their potency.

    • 3

Add 1/4 tsp. of the ground pumpkin seeds to your cat's canned wet food and stir it in well. Give this to your cat each day for 60 days to eliminate its tapeworms.

    • 4

Stir in 1/4 tsp. of wheat germ oil into your cat's wet food, along with the ground pumpkin seeds. The oil will help the pumpkin seeds work and helps to discourage tapeworm infestations as a stand alone treatment. You can continue to supplement your cat's diet with wheat germ oil after 60 days, as it will discourage re-infestation. It also helps to encourage a shiny, healthy coat.

Chop up some dried figs and finely grind them in the food processor. Add 1/4 tsp. of ground figs into your cat's food to assist in getting rid of the tapeworms. Figs contain enzymes that eat away at the outer coating of the tapeworms. Continue the fig treatment for 60 days along with the pumpkin seeds and wheat germ oil supplementation.
