How to Fix a Cat's Bad Breath

A whiff of bad cat breath is never pleasant. While cat breath isn't typically sweet, it doesn't have to be horrific, either. Sudden onset of bad breath in a cat could be indicative of dental health issues or other health issues so before treating your cat's bad breath as an isolated symptom, take the cat to a veterinarian to rule out any other issues. Once your cat's health is in the clear, your free to treat the unpleasant smelling cat breath.

Place the finger toothbrush over your index finger. Dampen the surface with room temperature water and add a drop of pet-safe toothpaste.

Open the cat's mouth gently by prying the little finger between the teeth on the side of the mouth. Insert the finger toothbrush and gently massage the teeth and gums. Rub a few teeth at a time, moving around the mouth slowly.

Some cat foods have verz stong odors.

Change the cat's food. If the cat suddenly has a bad case of tuna breath and is eating tuna-flavored cat food all the time, alternating other flavors or eliminating the offending flavor will help reduce bad breath.

Give your cat dental treats each day or treats that freshen the breath. Make sure the treats are made specifically for cats. Dental treats help remove plaque and freshen the cats breath.
