Instructions
Watch for signs of the female cat coming into heat. When the female goes into heat, she will howl and meow while attempting to get outside to mate with a male.
Check the nipples of the female approximately three weeks after she goes into heat. If she is pregnant, the nipples will become pinker and the hair around them will begin to recede.
Feel the female cat's belly after about seven weeks. After seven weeks, the belly should be firmer and movement may be felt.
Watch the mother cat closely around the 60th day as the gestational period for cats is about 62 days. She will begin nesting, moving blankets around to get ready for the birth of the babies. In addition, ensure that she is not in a place where she and the kittens can get stuck; be sure she is in a safe box where she will not be disturbed during birth and for about a week after the birth of the kittens.
How do I Track a Cat Pregnancy?
When female cats go into heat, the male cat can sense her and when she escapes from inside the house, the male cat will find her. Sometimes, it can be difficult to tell if the cat has actually been mated while she was in heat, but with observations, the owner will be able to tell if she is pregnant as well as when she will give birth. Gestational period for felines can range from 61 to 65 days but the average gestational period is 62 days.
