How to Prevent Cat Furballs With Baby Food

It's the sound you hope you will never hear; your cat retching and spluttering, the surefire noises that lead to a big, sloppy hairball all over your carpet. Although disgusting, hairballs are a part of every cat's grooming routine. When a cat grooms itself, its tongue lifts up hair and the cat ingests it. The hair mixes with mucus inside the cat's body and is either regurgitated or vomited, depending on if the hairball is in the throat or the stomach. One way to prevent excessive hairballs in cats is to introduce a laxative, or fiber supplement, into the cat's diet. Baby food is an example of a high-fiber source that will help diminish hairballs in your cat.
