How to Treat Cat Hair Balls

Cats ingest their own fur when they bathe themselves. The fur collects into a clot or ball. Once the ball of fur reaches a certain size, the cat throws up the hairball. Hairballs occur more in long-haired cats and during warmer weather. Hairball remedies make it possible for the cat to pass the hairball as a bowel movement rather than vomit it up. If a hairball is too large, the cat can choke on it.

Instructions

    • 1

Comb the cat's fur every day. Do not tug on the fur.

    • 2

Give the cat a nickel-sized drop of the hairball medication or petroleum jelly daily. If the cat won't eat the gel, wipe it on its leg or face. The cat will clean it off its fur and ingest it.

    • 3

Feed the cat food that has a high fiber content.
