How to Build a Ferel Cat House

Feral cats are wild cats that live outdoors, but just like an inside domestic cat, these feral cats need to be protected from the outside winter elements, such as the wind and cold. There are many different methods for providing outdoor shelter for feral cats, but one involves home storage bins and a little styrofoam for insulation and within an hour you can have a cozy little home for outdoor felines to use.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a square hole into both of the storage bins using the box cutter. It doesn't matter which end or which side you cut as long as both holes cut are in the same place on both storage bins. Cut the holes just big enough for the feral cats to fit through and no bigger.

    • 2

Sand rough edges with sandpaper where you have cut the holes.

    • 3

Measure the inside of the largest storage bin and cut the styrofoam insulation to the length and height of the bin. Be sure the styrofoam is cut thin enough so that the smaller bin will fit snugly inside the layer of styrofoam and the largest storage bin. Cut six pieces of styrofoam; four to line the inside of the largest bin and two that will be placed on top of the smallest bin.

    • 4

Place the pieces of styrofoam inside the largest bin to line the inside. Cut holes out in the styrofoam where you have cut the hole in the storage bin with the box cutter and place the smallest bin inside the largest bin.

    • 5

Place the pinestraw into the smallest tub, just enough to cover the bottom and replace the cover of the smallest tub. The pinestraw can be something soft for the cats to lay on as well as keep them warm.

    • 6

Place the last two pieces of styrofoam on top of the smallest storage bin and place the lid on the largest bin.
