Unpleasant Side Effect
-
Some pets, including cats, may get the unpleasant experience of diarrhea when first introduced to Cosequin. This is the most common side effect. However, this problem generally subsides in a short time if the dosage instructions are carefully followed.
Stomach Distress
-
Another annoying side effect, although rare, is upset stomach, including flatulence, bloating or vomiting after taking Cosequin. To avoid this distress, give this supplement to your cat after meals. Symptoms associated with indigestion are intensified on an empty stomach.
Finicky Eating
-
A loss of appetite is possible in all cats with all supplements and medications, including Cosequin. The best way to deal with a finicky eating side effect is to offer your cat exciting, favorite foods. Your cat will get around to eating when offered meals that are hard to resist.
Allergy Considerations
-
Allergies can be aggravated with Cosequin. In a very small number of pets, Cosequin may cause a reaction if eaten with beef proteins. Also, if your cat has any known or suspected allergies, your veterinarian needs to be alerted, or reminded, before administering this supplement. The benefits for your cat may be worth the risk.
No Agility Improvement
-
A possible side effect is that Cosequin simply will not improve the mobility of your cat. No dietary supplement, including Cosequin, is a magic bullet, and not all pets get the expected relief from aging joint problems, nor do all experience increased agility and movement. Some cats may need prescription medications for pain or severe problems. Others may require surgery to correct a specific injury

Side Effects of Cosequin on Cats
Cosequin, a dietary supplement, has absolutely no ability to cure the curiosity of your aging cat. Nothing can do that! She will always have the same investigative nature as the spry little kitten that captured your heart and consumed your home years ago. However, your veterinarian may suggest that Cosequin could restore some of her former vitality. You do want her aging joints to functionally improve, but you are concerned about any possible side effects associated with Cosequin. The product is usually well-tolerated, but a few quirks do exist.
