Natural Home Remedies for Bloody Stools in Cats

If you notice blood in your cat's stool, it can be indicative of an infection within the digestive tract, polyps or even allergies. A small amount of blood can also indicate constipation; your cat may be straining to make a bowel movement. Continuous blood in large amounts could, however, be a sign of a more serious condition. There are natural remedies for bloody stools in cats you can try home.
  1. Natural Diet

    • Certain foods could be disrupting your cat's digestive tract, causing bloody stool. Slowly replace the food your cat is eating with more natural foods, such as boiled, skinless chicken, rice and plain yogurt. This change needs to happen over five to seven days by gradually adding the natural food to the cat's regular food. Over the course of a week, your cat's diet should consist of only the natural diet. Take note of any changes in the stool.

    Herbs

    • Certain herbs have a positive effect on the digestive system. Examples of these herbs include: Psyllium nigram, Avena sativa (oats) and Aloe ferox. They cleanse the digestive tract, ridding it of any toxins that are contributing to the bloody stool. These herbs come in capsule form; you can break the capsules apart and sprinkle the herb directly on to your cat's food.

    Fasting

    • Fasting is the most natural home remedy to treat a cat with bloody stool. Withhold food for 24 hours and water for 12 hours to allow your cat's digestive system to manage whatever is disrupting it. After the fast, slowly introduce food, giving your cat a small amount at a time.
