Pre-Seizure Phase Signs
-
Symptoms that your cat may be suffering from in the first phase of a seizure--the pre-seizure phase--might be salivating, meowing and hiding. Other symptoms may include your cat seeking more affection than usual, pacing and appearing restless or acting "odd." The pre-seizure phase usually lasts only a couple of minutes, therefore the signs of seizure in this phase are only obvious for a short time.
Ictus Phase Signs of Seizure
-
When your cat is in the actual throws of a seizure, it is called the Ictus phase. Symptoms that your cat might experience in the Ictus phase can be similar to those seen in the pre-seizure phase, such as salivating. Your cat might also demonstrate more severe signs of a seizure including vomiting, running in circles, uncoordinated muscle activity and even complete collapse. A seizure can last from anywhere between a few seconds to a few hours. Learning to recognize the signs of a seizure in your cat will allow you to make an educated decision on whether to take her to the vet.
Post-Ictal Phase Signs of Seizures
-
It is very common for cats to experience temporary blindness as a sign of a seizure in the post-Ictal phase. Other signs of a seizure in the post-Ictal phase may be disorientation and a lack of coordination. It is common for cats' legs to buckle underneath them or for them to lose their balance in this phase. The post-Ictal phase can last, unfortunately, between minutes and days. The best thing you can do for your cat at this stage is to be there for him and comfort him.
Causes
-
Seizures in cats can be caused by epilepsy. Cats can also experience seizures for other reasons including high blood glucose levels, low oxygen levels, kidney disorders, exposure to toxins such as chocolate, lead or antifreeze, brain damage and brain tumors. When your cat exhibits signs of a seizure it is important to get her to the veterinarian immediately.

Signs of Seizures in Cats
It is difficult to know what is troubling your feline friends since they can't communicate with you to tell you how they feel and what ails them. Oftentimes, if they are ill, your cats may act differently or in an odd or unusual way and you'll have no idea what is wrong with them. There are signs of seizures in cats that you should be aware of in case that is what is happening.
