Instructions
Urine and Feces Stains
Soak up and remove all urine and feces excess from the area with a rag or paper towels.
Mix a solution of 2 cups hot water and 1 cup distilled white vinegar and put it in a spray bottle. Test this solution on a small section of your carpet to check for fading or discoloration. If there is no problem, spray the solution on the stained area. Vinegar has many benefits as a cleaning agent; it eliminates smells and bacteria from stains. Also, vinegar is safe and inexpensive.
Cover the soaked spot with several layers of paper towels or a rag. Place something heavy on top of the towels; use an object that won't be damaged by vinegar. The pressure will speed the removal of the urine or feces stain from your carpet. Continue to replace the paper towels or rag until your carpet is dry.
Remove any lingering cat or vinegar odors from your carpet with baking soda. Sprinkle baking soda on the area. Let it soak into the carpet for 30 minutes and then vacuum.
If needed, use a heated carpet steam machine filled with a mild liquid detergent and water to provide overall freshness to your carpet.
Vomit Stains
Remove any cat vomit on your carpet with paper towels, an old rag or baby wipes. Usually, cats throw up their food because of their age, illness, change in diet, or because they have been eating grass outside.
Mix 1 teaspoon of a mild liquid detergent with hot water in a spray bottle or bucket. Wipe the stained area back and forth with a rag or scrub brush until you no longer see stain residue. This may take several times and require you to scrub the area diligently.
Mix a solution of 2 cups hot water and 1 cup of distilled white vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray the solution on the stained area. In addition to removing smells and bacteria, vinegar eradicates most carpet discoloration caused by pet stains.
Cover the entire area where your cat vomited with baking soda. Let the baking soda soak into your carpet for 30 minutes. Vacuum the baking soda.
Use a carpet machine to freshen your carpet.
