Symptoms
-
Loss of consciousness, muscle contractions throughout the entire body, involuntary urination/defecation/salivation and odd behavioral changes are all symptoms of feline seizures.
Causes
-
Feline seizures are often caused by drug overdose, trauma, epilepsy or brain tumors.
Diagnosis
-
Your veterinarian will perform a medical history, physical exam and neurological tests to diagnose seizures. Other tests may include blood count, urinalysis or testing for infectious disease.
Treatment
-
Anticonvulsant drugs are prescribed to your cat for short-term treatment. This medication may be used long-term depending on the frequency and severity of your cat's seizures.
Warning
-
Feline seizures are a serious medical problem and should not go untreated. They could be the result of a more serious underlying condition that requires immediate veterinary treatment.

Cats & Seizures
