Feline Albuterol Side Effects

Albuterol is a prescription medication used in treatment of human as well as feline asthma. The medication can be administered orally or by inhalation. Albuterol aids in relief of feline asthma symptoms but also has many potential side effects. Consult your veterinarian about albuterol for your cat.
  1. Heart Problems

    • Cats using albuterol sometimes suffer from increased heart rate. Cardiac arrythmia (irregular heartbeat) is another common side effect of the medication.

    Nervous Behavior

    • Excitement, restlessness and nervousness are behavioral changes common in cats using albuterol. Hyperactivity and depression are signs that your cat is overdosed on albuterol.

    Physical Changes

    • A cat using Albuterol may experience dizziness or tremors.

    Drug Allergy

    • As with any other medication, your cat may experience a drug allergy to albuterol. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your cat experiences an allergic reaction to albuterol.

    Gasterointestinal Problems

    • Common stomach problems experienced by cats taking albuterol are vomiting, diarrhea or constipation.

    Drug Interaction

    • Albuterol may interact with other medications your cat is currently taking. Diuretics, antidepressants, or ephedrine are examples of medications that react negatively with albuterol.
