How to Kill Fleas With Corn Oil

Fleas are an unpleasant side effect of having a pet, but flea collars, sprays and powders contain toxic substances that can cause serious health problems for you and your pet. Flea collars, for example, mean your pet will be inhaling toxins as will you when you are near your animal. It takes a pretty strong chemical to kill a flea, but corn oil is a natural and highly effective solution to any flea problem as it smothers the fleas and treats existing bites. It is preferable that you bathe your pet in the bathroom as you will be following the corn oil with a soap and water bath.

Instructions

    • 1

Take your pet into your bathroom and place on an old towel. Have the corn oil bottle opened and ready to pour.

    • 2

Pour the corn oil into your hands and start massaging it into pet's hair and skin starting with the places fleas are most active, around the pet's head and ears. Be careful not to get the oil into your pet's eyes, but if this happens, flush its eyes with water.

    • 3

Continue pouring corn oil onto your hands or directly onto your pet until its whole body has been covered in the oil. You may begin to notice dead fleas falling off your pet as you massage the oil into your animal's coat.

    • 4

Follow the corn oil bath by rinsing your pet with water. Next, give your animal a soap and water bath using a vegetable oil-based soap. Vegetable oil-based soap is best because it will not harm your pet if it gets in the eyes, though flushing of the eyes immediately is still a very good idea if soap gets in the animal's eyes.

    • 5

Continue using soap and water until the pet is free of the corn oil then tTowel off your pet when finished.
