How to Check a Feline's Blood Glucose Level at Home

Felines, like people, can suffer from diabetes. Also like people, felines must have their blood glucose levels tested on a regular basis. Testing your feline's blood glucose level at home is as challenging process, but once your cat gets used to being tested, the process may become easier.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert your testing strip into the end of your glucose meter.

    • 2

Hold your cat in your lap. The process will be easier if you have someone you trust holding your cat for you.

    • 3

Take your cat's foot in your hand and hold it tightly. Do not squeeze too hard. You don't want to hurt your cat.

    • 4

Rub the large pad on your cat's foot to warm it up. It is easier to get blood from the large pad than the smaller ones on your cat's feet.

    • 5

Prick the large pad on your cat's foot with the lancet.

    • 6

Touch the testing strip to the droplet of blood on your cat's pad. Let your cat go and read the results.
