Instructions

  1. Brushing Fleas

    • 1

Place your cat on a white towel to make it easier to find stray fleas that jump off during grooming.

    • 2

Apply petroleum jelly to the tines of a flea comb to ensure fleas stick to the comb.

    • 3

Brush the cat everywhere. Be sure to get between her toes, under her arms and neck, and around her ears.

    Bathing

    • 4

Bathe your cat daily to kill any live fleas since they cannot live in water.

    • 5

Wash your cat with a gentle soap. Avoid using flea shampoos while she is pregnant--they can contain chemicals that are harmful to the kittens.

    • 6

Repeat daily bathing until the infestation has been resolved.

    Spraying

    • 7

Steep a half-dozen sliced lemons in a quart of water. Leave the lemons in the water for four hours.

    • 8

Remove the lemons and pour the liquid into a squirt bottle.

    • 9

Spray your cat daily with the liquid until the situation has been resolved, taking care to avoid her eyes.

    Food Methods

    • 10

Grate one-half clove of garlic into a skillet and cook until tender.

    • 11

Sprinkle cooked garlic over the top of your cat's food.

    • 12

Add garlic once every three days to make her taste unpleasant to the fleas.

    Preventing Future Outbreaks

    • 13

Inspect your cat daily to monitor the flea infestation.

    • 14

Keep other infested pets away from her, especially if she is not yet infested.

    • 15

Check with your doctor for diet modifications to boost her immune system, which will help her fight future outbreaks.
