How Much Clavamox Should One Give a Cat?

Clavamox is a drug commonly administered to cats for bacterial infections. It is manufactured by the Pfizer Animal Health division, and is a combination of amoxicillin, an antibiotic, and clavulanate, a drug that allows the amoxicillin to be recieved into the cat's body when it would normally have no effect.
  1. Usage

    • Clavamox is used to treat skin, bone, and soft tissue infections and illnesses, as well as urinary tract infections and pneumonia.

    Types

    • Clavimox is available in both liquid and tablet form, and must be supplied by a veterinarian.

    Tablet dosage

    • Tablets come in the form of scored, 62.5 mg tabs. The recommended dosage is 6.25 mg per lb of body weight.

    Liquid Dosage

    • Clavamox is supplied in 15 mL bottles containing 50 mg of amoxicillin and 12.5 mg of clavulanic acid per mL. The dosage for most cats is 1 mL of the solution twice a day.

    Course of Treatment

    • Clavamox should be administered in the recommended manner twice a day for 5 to 7 days or until 48 hours after any symptoms have subsided for most infections, and 10 to 14 days or longer for urinary tract infections. Use of Clavamox should not extend past 30 days.
