How to Treat Flea Problems with Brewer's Yeast

Warm weather can mean fleas for any pet that spends time outdoors. These bloodsucking small brown insects can live for up to six months on a host. Signs of flea infestation on your pet include constant itching and balding or scabbing of the skin. Fleas are similar to cockroaches in that they adapt readily to their environment and are becoming more and more resilient to commercial flea repellents. Among the numerous natural home remedies for fleas is brewer's yeast, whose taste fleas dislike.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure 1 level tbsp. of brewer's yeast.

    • 2

Dust the yeast all over the pet's fur, with particular emphasis on any places fleas have been spotted. Do this every other day.

    • 3

Repeat for a week to discourage fleas and heal any sores. Yeast will cure both small scabs and large open sores. Repeat three times a week indefinitely if the pet spends time outdoors in a flea-prone environment.
