Feline Nose Blockage

If your cat has something caught in its nose, it could be uncomfortable and unhappy. Treating feline nose blockages is important because they can lead to health problems in the future.
  1. Feline Nose Blockage

    • According to "What Your Cat Is Trying to Tell You", feline nose blockage occurs when an object in your cat's nose blocks some or part of its nasal passage.

    Symptoms

    • Symptoms of feline nasal blockage include sneezing and nasal discharge. Your cat could also have a nosebleed. Open-mouthed breathing is rare in cats and only happens when the blockage is total.

    Blockage Types

    • Your cat's nose can be blocked by foreign objects, like dirt or blades of grass. The Michigan Veterinary Medical Association says the blockage can also be caused by polyps or tumors growing inside the nasal cavity.

    Treatment

    • If your cat's nose is blocked by a blade of grass you might be able to remove it yourself. Your veterinarian can remove foreign objects and can perform surgery to remove tumors.

    Considerations

    • A nasal blockage that causes sneezing can lead to your cat developing chronic rhinitis. It could sneeze and have nasal discharge whenever it is sick or stressed.
