How to Exercise a Cat

Keeping your cat healthy is the best way to ensure a long life. Generally, cats are not taken outside for walks like dogs are. But there are a few different things that you can do to give your cat the much needed exercise she needs to stay fit. With a few cat toy items and a little creative thinking, you can have a bunch of different exercise toys. Playing with your cat everyday will help promote a healthier and longer life.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a cat toy with feathers or strings attached to the end of a long, plastic stick. Start by moving the toy along the floor, then flick the toy up to get your cat to stretch and jump to catch it.

    • 2

Run the cat toy up and down the stairs. This will get the cat to run and climb (and you'll be giving yourself a little exercise as well). Or drag the toy along back of the sofa or a chair.

    • 3

Attach the toy to the top of a cat tree. This will make the cat jump, climb and stretch to get at it, exercising his back and shoulder muscles.

Save the caps from your empty milk cartons. Drop the caps onto any hard surface in front of your cat. Watch as he runs, jumps and flicks the caps about.
