Time Release Antibiotics for Cats

Time release antibiotics for cats make it possible to give 14 days of medication in a single dose for skin disturbances, urinary infections and upper respiratory tract infections.
  1. Benefits

    • Even feral cats can be medicated accurately and easily in a single dose without mess, guessing or struggling. No more rushing home from work, canceling plans or changing routines to medicate your cat twice daily wondering if the cat got the correct amount of antibiotic.

    Urinary Tract Infection

    • Urinary tract infections develop fast and swiftly leaving cats lethargic and defenseless. The urethra or ureters, blocked by blood cells, debris and crystals from the infection, can cause the bladder to rupture or the kidney to fail.

    Ciprofloxacin

    • Ciprofloxacin is a broad spectrum extended release antibiotic manufactured by Bayer and approved by the FDA in 2007 for bacterial urinary tract infections in animals. Ciprofloxacin extended release is available from Pet Nutrition Products.

    Moxatag

    • MiddleBrook Pharmaceuticals released Moxatag, FDA-approved once-daily amoxicillin in January 2008 for the treatment of infectious upper respiratory ailments including strep throat. Moxatag is approved for use in cats.

    Covenia

    • Pfizer Animal Health announced FDA approval of Convenia in June 2008, a new time released antibiotic for cats (and dogs) developed for skin infections--the most common reason that cats are taken to the veterinarian. In just one single injection of convenia, the cat receives 14 days of antibiotic treatment for wounds, skin infections and abscesses.
