Instructions
Cut the hair around the wound. This can be done with a small pair of sewing scissors, or a regular pair from around the house. Be very careful and work under a bright light to provide the best care when cleaning an open cat wound.
Tweeze out any items you find in the wound, such as rocks or other debris. Again, be very gently so you do not harm the cat or damage any healthy tissue.
Wash the area with saline solution or antibacterial soap. Saline solution is the same stuff that is used for cleaning contacts or clearing your nasal passages. You might find this around the house. Check the ingredients for harmful stuff, but most of these solution are safe to use when cleaning an open cat wound and providing first-aid care for your cat. Finish by rinsing out the wound with warm water. Again, be gentle.
Wrap the wound with gauze and tape. This dressing should be changed twice a day. Do not pick off or remove any scabs. Scabs are good as they are a sign of healing and will help the wound heal quicker.
