Wool Rugs are Safe
-
Wool rugs are safe to have at home. They are naturally flame-retardant and resistant to static. Compared to rugs made from synthetic materials, they are non-allergenic and non-toxic. In addition, according to Hibernia Woolen Mills' website, wool stabilizes "the relative humidity in buildings by absorbing or releasing moisture during periods of high or low atmospheric humidity." Wool also has the capability of neutralizing pollutants, such as nitrous oxides, sulphur dioxide and formaldehyde, thereby improving air quality as well as pet and human health.
Pets Like Wool
-
Pets are attracted to the natural smell of wool. The soft and springy texture of wool makes it an ideal material for pet bedding as well. If you want to keep your pet off of your wool rug, use pet repellent spray, which can be purchased at pet stores.
Wool is Easy to Clean
-
Wool carpets are easy to clean because they are non-absorbent, repel stains and dry fast. To clean pet urine in wool, absorb as much of the moisture as possible with a sponge or paper towel. Place additional towels under the rug and on top of the stain. Stack something heavy on top for a few hours. Sprinkle baking soda on the stain to absorb the odors, and then use a vacuum cleaner on the area.

Are Wool Rugs Good for Pets?
Wool rugs are an excellent choice to cover your floor at home. Natural wool as opposed to synthetic fibers means it is non-allergenic. In addition, it is easy to clean, long lasting and, therefore, good to have in the home, even with pets. Though more expensive than rugs composed of synthetically made materials, wool rugs are worth the extra cost.
