Frontline Plus Product Side Effects

Frontline Plus is a "spot-on" treatment that effectively kills fleas on cats and dogs. While certain flea control products may be harmful to your pets--especially if misused--Frontline side effects are rare. To avoid negative Frontline side effects, be sure to use the type of Fronline that is appropriate for your pet. For example, do not use Frontline products for dogs on your cat.
  1. Skin Irritation

    • Frontline Plus, like other flea control products, is a pesticide. Certain pets may have or develop sensitivities to these products. The typical result is skin irritation, particularly between the shoulder blades of the pet where the Frontline Plus is applied. Skin may become reddened or scaly. Keep a close eye on your pet. If the condition of your pet's skin gets worse, contact your veterinarian.

    Excessive Drooling

    • Other Frontline side effects include excessive drooling. This typically only occurs if your pet has managed to ingest some of the Frontline. Misapplying the Frontline Plus may allow your pet to lick the spot where the product has been applied before it is dry. Watch your pet carefully if this occurs. Make sure she drinks plenty of fresh water. If any other problems develop--or if your pet drools for an extended period of time--contact your veterinarian immediately.

    General Side Effects

    • Frontline Plus is generally safe, but the FDA recommends monitoring your pet for the following symptoms after applying any flea control products: vomiting, lack of appetite or refusal to eat, diarrhea or depression. These symptoms are not specific to Frontline Plus. However, if your pet displays any of them after being treated with Frontline, consult your veterinarian.
