Instructions
Never put the kitty litter box by food or water. This will just associate food with the litter box. Imagine eating your own meal next to the toilet - yuck! No one wants to do that! So basically, your cat would rather go outside or on the side of the litter box.
Put your cat in the bathroom with the litter box. Set your cat in there for about 6 hours to try and stop your cat from pooping on the floor. Let them out 3 hours in between to let them run around and play. When they start using their litter box correctly, go ahead and move the cat box out into a wider area.
Get two litter boxes: You can toilet train your cat with another litter box in case they still think the other one is dirty with pee. Cats sometimes are very picky and they won't pee in the same box that they poo in or vice versa. If you have another cat, another litter box is definitely needed as some cats are territorial.
Clean the litter box every day: In order to stop your cat from pooping on the floor, it is very important to clean the litter box once or twice a day. Get a kitty scooper or if you really want to save yourself some time - get an automatic litter box which sweeps away excess feces.
