Hartz Ultraguard Plus offers over-the-counter treatments for insects bothering your dogs and cats. While most animals do not have any reaction to the treatment, some animals have had mild to severe and even life-threatening adverse reactions. Knowing what to watch for is key when you are using these products. Keep a close eye on your pet for the first 24 hours after using any product. Consult your veterinarian if you have any questions.

  1. Muscular

    • If your animal starts twitching, is trembling or becomes uncoordinated, he may be experiencing a reaction to the active ingredient in Hartz Ultragurad Plus. If your pet's normal behavior and mannerisms change, remove the Hartz Ultraguard Plus. Remove any treated collars immediately and wash topical solutions off with water and dawn dish soap.

    Respiratory

    • Shallow breathing, wheezing and coughing are signs of respiratory distress in animals. These symptoms usually show up within an hour of applying the product. Also watch your pet's skin for redness and irritation.

    Severe reactions
