Vinegar
-
Use apple-cider vinegar to repel fleas on your cat, according to EduBook.com. Fleas dislike the smell and taste of vinegar. Mix a half-and-half solution of apple-cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle and mist it on your cat. Rub the spray into the cat's fur, making sure the liquid penetrates down to the skin. This remedy is good for outdoor cats on a regular basis, but you may not enjoy having the vinegar-smelling pet in the house.
Lemons
-
For an effective flea-repellent spray with a pleasant smell use a homemade lemon concoction, according to EduBook.com. Slice up six lemons and boil the pieces in a quart of water. Once the water reaches a boil, turn off the heat and allow the lemon slices to steep in the water for several hours. Pour the liquid through a strainer to remove the peels, pulp and seeds. Then funnel the remaining liquid into a spray bottle.
Do not use a spray bottle that has held a chemical cleaner or other harmful products before. Spray the cat, its bedding and your furniture with the lemon solution to make fleas run for the hills. Avoid spraying the mixture in your eyes or the cat̵7;s eyes, as the acidic nature of the fruit will sting.
Diluted Shampoo
-
Purchase a flower-scented shampoo and use it as the active ingredient in your own homemade flea spray, according to Paw-Rescue.org. Put a few drops of flower-scented shampoo, such as a product with a strong lavender scent, into a spray bottle and fill it with water. Screw the top on tight and shake the bottle to combine the shampoo with the water. Use the mixture as a spray that will repel fleas. Unless the shampoo is formulated for no-tears, such as a baby shampoo, you will have to be careful about getting this mixture in the cat̵7;s eyes or it may sting a bit.
