Home Remedies for Cat Eye Discharge
-
Your cat's eyes should be bright, free of mucus or debris, and open wide. These are all indicators that your pet is healthy. If you see that your cat has discharge coming from its eyes, usually appearing in the corners of the eye, you should consult a veterinarian. In the meantime, however, there are home remedies for cat eye discharge. Take a warm, moist cloth or cotton ball that has been rung out, and slowly and gently wipe away the discharge. Always wipe away from the eyeball itself as to not worsen the condition or irritate your cat's eyes. If there is debris or a foreign object in the eye, use saline or contact lens solution to flush out the affected eye.
Other Factors to Consider
-
Never try to cover your cat's eye or apply any kind of antibiotic ointment or other product intended for humans (aside from simple saline). To ensure safety, only take the steps mentioned above to alleviate your cat's condition. When dealing with a cat in this manner, take steps to protect yourself. If your cat is a fighter, it helps to have a partner with you who will be able to gently restrain it legs and head so you can help clean the area. This will help prevent injury to you and your cat. A frightened cat can become violent through no fault of its own. Remember, cats are creatures of instinct.
Again, these are only temporary fixes. Always see a veterinarian who will be able to diagnosis and fix the underlying condition causing the discharge.
