  1. Acute Renal Failure

    Bladder Stones

    • Bladder stones also known as uroliths are hard structures that form in the urinary bladder. It can cause an obstruction and urine cannot pass out of the body. This can make the abdomen extremely painful.

    Inflammation of the Bladder

    • Inflammation of the bladder also known as cystitis can make it hard for a cat to urinate. The Blue Cross Britain's Pet Charity notes, "Cystitis can sometimes result in a blockage of the urethra." This is mostly seen in male cats.

    Cancer

    • Difficulty urinating is a sign that your cat may have cancer.

    Urinary Tract Infection

    • A urinary tract infection is a bladder infection that makes it hard for a cat to urinate. Factors that can cause a urinary tract infection are diet, stress, gender and age.
