Birth Weight
-
At birth your kitten should weigh about 3 1/2 oz., depending on its breed and litter size. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, "Gaining 1/4 to half an ounce daily until they are weaned is considered healthy. Kittens who don't gain adequate weight during this early period may not survive."
Weight During Weaning
-
When the time has come to start weaning your kitten, it will be doing good if it gains 10 to 20 grams a day. You should keep a record of its weight to quickly identify any weight loss or gain. They should be fed five times a day to maintain a healthy weight.
Before Your kitten Goes Home
-
Before a kitten should go to a new home or be placed for adoption it should weigh approximately two pounds.
Underweight Kittens
-
Consult your veterinarian if your kitten is underweight. Pregnant moms who are not fed a proper diet can give birth to weak and underweight kittens.
Overweight Kittens
-
Keep your kitten at a healthy weight. Overweight kittens can develop health problems as they mature, such as diabetes and heart conditions.
