Things You'll Need
- Acidifying diet
- Cranberry juice/extract
- Urine-acidifying medication
Instructions
-
Lower Feline Urinary pH
-
1
Feed your cat a specialized diet to promote the production of more acidic urine. These diets are prepared commercially and are available through your veterinarian. They should contain large amounts of animal- and fish-based protein.
-
2
Add cranberry juice to your cat's diet. You can administer cranberry extract easily using a dropper or can hide it in your cat's food. Two or three drops daily will acidify your cat's urine naturally.
-
3
Instead of feeding at specific mealtimes, let your cat nibble on his food throughout the day. This allows the urine to become slightly more acidic.
-
4
Speak to your veterinarian about urine-acidifying drug therapy for your cat. These medications, given orally, lower urine pH quickly.
