Rebound Liquid Diet for Felines

Rebound Liquid Diet is a feeding solution made for dogs and cats that need some help getting the nutrition they require. The diet provides balanced nutrition for the care of felines in an easy-to-use, versatile liquid form. Giving it to the cat is as easy to use as it is helpful for the animal.
  1. Reasons for using

    • Rebound Liquid Diet is a high-fiber liquid diet. When you and/or your veterinarian decide to use it, the product comes with very few instructions. Some of the reasons for using this diet for your cat, according to medi-vet.com, are as follows:
      Lack of appetite
      Malnutrition
      Nutritional Support
      Trauma, Surgery Recovery
      Geriatric Pets
      Post Dental Mouth Sensitivity
      Cachexia

Most of the time this formula is used to recuperate cats who can't or won't eat for themselves.

    Nutritional information

    • When a cat refuses to eat, many problems may arise. This diet replenishes many of those issues. The nutrients are designed and combined to help maintain or increase weight, if the cat is severely underweight. It will help the animal maintain and create a balanced energy source. It has much-needed insoluble fiber for increased gastrointestinal function, and essential vitamins (such as A, D, E, B6 and B12). Reboun also has added Omega fatty acids (DHA) to maintain and help develop brain, eye and heart health. It is also lactose-free to help digestion. All of these functions are important for cats. However, since most cats get these within their natural diets, Rebound is made mainly for cats in need.

    Instructions

    • Rebound comes in a re-sealable container, making it easy to pour out and re-use. There are two ways to administer the liquid--by tube feeding, or dose syringed. Tube feeding involves placing the liquid into a tube that usually hangs on a wall or cage, allowing the animal to lap at it, allowing a small amount of liquid to come out, without all the mess of an open dish. Some cats, however, are not at the stage to feed themselves through a tube and require a dose syringe, which is placing the liquid in a syringe (minus the needle, of course), and "injecting" it into the cat's mouth. This can sometimes be difficult, depending on the cat, but it can also be necessary. Both ways work, and should be determined by the strength or illness of the feline. The amount to be fed, as indicated on the label of the container, is 1/3 of the recommended dosage the first day, 2/3 the second day, and the entire dose the third day. The recommended dosage depends on the weight of the animal, and can be found on the Rebound container, or in a link the resources section.

Administer the solution until the animal returns to its normal eating habits, or until your veterinarian tells you otherwise. In addition, always leave other food out for the cat--this is mainly used as a supplement and a way to get the proper nutrition into the animal. If this is all the animal is eating, or being fed, talk with your vet to make sure it's all right.
